2023 Adult Learn to Sail Program

Ever wonder what it’s like to sail on one of those beautiful boats you see plying the open waters of Lake Ontario each summer? Now is your chance to find out.

The Olcott Yacht Club offers adult sailing instruction lessons to those 18 yrs of age and over each season.  The program consists of 8 lessons (1 classroom, 7 on the water).  You will learn how to rig & secure the sails, lines and gear; steer by the wind; trim sails; Rules of the Road on the water; along with docking techniques.  Even experienced crew can benefit by learning responsible helmsmanship.

The program meets at the Club Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM and Saturday mornings at 10:00 AM for 1 ½ – 2 hour sessions depending on lake conditions.  The lessons are taught by veteran skippers of the Olcott Yacht Club’s racing and cruising fleets, allowing participants an opportunity to learn on a variety of boats large and small.

The program is open to members and non-members alike.  So sign up and bring a friend!

COVID-19 Note: distancing while onboard the boats cannot be  guaranteed.  Participants shall sign a COVID-19 liability waiver (copy available as a PDF below).

Lesson Dates:

  

Tuesdays – May 30 (classroom), June 6, 13, 20
Saturdays – June 3, 10, 17, 24
 

Fees:  Single $175,    Pair $275 (couple, friends, relatives, etc.)
